In this
project I have used found imagery in several different ways to produce a
minimum of 3 A4 editorial illustrations. Those techniques are: unexpected
scale, ghost printing, weaving/slicing images together, block areas of colour,
replacing/removing areas of image, type blocks, found type, monoprint,
photocopier and Photoshop and the conscious addition of marks and drawing.
Our aim was
to portray a given article using the found imagery. We began by working with a
headline, which was helpful to get us thinking about possible meanings and
angles because we didn’t know the story in detail.
This
project has taught me a lot about the value of using found imagery and the
different ways they can be used. This project also lends itself to very simple
imagery and composition, so I learnt to be selective about the images I used
and not overcrowd the page.
Weaknesses
in my own work would be my tendency to overcrowd the page with images, and also
to explore one avenue of the article, if I had more time, I would like to
explore many different angles of my article, trying to produce images for each
one. I would also like to experiment more with my current final pieces as I
believe they could be pushed more and involve more techniques.
|
·
A minimum of 42 observational
drawings in your A5 sketchbook.
