3D Spatial: Marcel Breuer

Marcel Breuer:
Breuer wanted to create a chair that could be made in a modern factory, and wanted to create it form the same tubular steel that his bicycle was made from. His first design (Wassily chair) although not the first of its kind, is a classic, and is still being sold today; I myself saw it on sale only a couple of weeks ago in a design shop.
The first design is probably one of the more complicated ones, with many pieces of fabric and cross sections of tube, the later designs are  more minimal, also a classic, and are made from one longer, shaped piece of tubular steel. This makes them very easy to make in a factory process, as it is uncomplicated.
I like these designs, as they’re very versatile, and simple, whilst been comfortable. He has successfully combined the minimalist design with a functional and relatively useable chair.
Breuer also worked as an architect, designing many buildings in his lifetime. He predominantly works with concrete, but comes up with new and artistic uses for it. His designs are full of angles, shape and shadow, which draw the eye and make the building more interesting.
His designs push what is possible with his material, and the result is extremely modern architecture, that is still intriguing today.
