3D Spatial: Thomas Heatherwick

Thomas Heatherwicks designs are less functional than some of the other designers I have seen; they have a more sculptural background. His work focuses greatly on shape, have a clean finish and have a beautiful quality.
The most iconic of his designs in the cauldron for the 2012 Olympic games; every piece was beautifully crafted, and the way it symbolized all those countries coming together for the games, was inspirational.
I like this work because it has a slightly quirky nature: it’s different. The stairs are particularly interesting I think, because the heave a futuristic feel to them, and the bright red combined with the natural colour of the wood, works very well.
Looking at his work involving aluminium, it has a very natural look to it. They’re beautiful pieces of work in the way that they flow and change from every angle. The shining aluminium finish makes them look like water that has shaped itself into flowing benches.
